If you’re a hiking enthusiast, The Grand Canyon is one of the most stunning natural environments in the world. From the Canyon’s steep, craggy cliffs to the majestic Colorado River, you will find plants and animals in the Grand Canyon that don’t exist anywhere else in the world. The Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association is committed to promoting and encouraging outdoor athletic and educational opportunities in the Grand Canyon area.

Whether you are a seasoned backpacker or a weekend hiker, there is something for everyone within the vast territory that the Grand Canyon encompasses. The Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association has an unlikely beginning: it was started as a result of the Yahoo Grand Canyon Hikers mailing list and forum. Although the Association now has physical body, the Yahoo mailing list and forum are still a great way to contact local expert hikers and backpackers in the Grand Canyon area. If you are visiting the Grand Canyon, you can join an extensive network of people who also enjoy outdoor activities. By taking part in one of the Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association activities or volunteer opportunities, you can create a meaningful and memorable experience during your Grand Canyon adventure.

One of the most important roles of the Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association is visitor education. Because of the area’s stunning, yet rugged and wild terrain, it is important to learn about the region where you plan on hiking or backpacking. To assist visitors, the Association has created an online database of inner Canyon water resources to be prepared when exploring in a dry, desert environment. By working together with Grand Canyon National Park and the National Park Service, the Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association encourages group members to volunteer for service projects, which enable them to enjoy outdoor hiking and sightseeing while helping preserve one of the greatest natural marvels in the United States.
