Set among the Pinyon Pines and Juniper trees about a half mile away from the South Rim sits Yavapai Lodge, the largest lodging facility at the Grand Canyon. Though it doesn’t come with canyon views, it is still close enough to easily walk to and from or hop on the shuttle for a ride into the park.
Its proximity to Canyon Village Marketplace is often seen as a plus for guests because of the variety of conveniences they find at the Marketplace such as laundry facilities, food, a bank, convenience stores, gift shops and the post office.
With more than 350 rooms, guests have choices in how many amenities such as coffee makers and ceiling fans they wish to have during their stay. Divided into two sections, Yavapai West and Yavapai East, the majority of rooms are located in single story buildings, while others are in two-story buildings. The paths between buildings is said to be quite dark at night, so be sure to bring a flashlight with you if you plan on wandering the grounds after dark.
Rooms with two queen beds or king single rooms are available with and without air conditioning. As with any popular tourist destination, book early or you may not get to book at all.
Amenities (some only available in certain rooms)
- Air conditioning
- Coffee maker
- Ceiling vans
- Vaulted ceilings
Rooms are reported to be clean and serviceable. Those who claimed they were disappointed in the Yavapai Lodge seemed not to have researched the property as they were disappointed in things clearly stated on the website and in signs on property.
Parking can be a problem so spend some time getting a good spot. On the plus side, once you park, you may not need to use your vehicle much as you will be staying so close to the park and shuttle service abounds.
Though it is considerable more “in-town” than the other lodging properties at the South Rim, guests are still treated to plenty of wildlife sightings. Some guests have recommended getting up early and walking out to Yavapai Point to watch the sunrise or set.
Who is it good for?
Yavapai Lodge is suited for just about any group, both for its relative affordability and for its basic accommodations. King singles and queen doubles make it easy for couples or groups to lodge here together.
